The profound and eternal quest to discern and live according to God’s will is at the heart of the Christian journey. Many believers ask, “What does God want for my life?” While the specifics of God’s will can be unique for each individual, the Bible provides overarching principles that apply to every believer. Here’s a brief look at God’s will for His Christian children:

  1. Know Him and Be Known:
The primary desire God has for His children is that they know Him personally and intimately. Jesus said, “And this is eternal life, that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom you have sent.” (John 17:3).
  2. To Be Transformed:
God’s will is for us to be continually transformed into the image of Christ. The Apostle Paul wrote, “Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind…” (Romans 12:2).
  3. To Love:
The greatest commandments are to “Love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, and mind” and to “Love your neighbor as yourself” (Matthew 22:37-39). God desires that love be the motivation and foundation for everything we do.
  4. To Live Righteously:
God’s will is for His children to pursue righteousness and holiness. As Peter reminds us, “As obedient children, do not conform to the evil desires you had when you lived in ignorance. But just as he who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do” (1 Peter 1:14-15).
  5. To Share the Gospel:
God desires that His children share the Good News of salvation through Jesus Christ. “Go and make disciples of all nations…” (Matthew 28:19) is a clear mandate for every believer.
  6. To Be Thankful in All Circumstances:
Paul advises, “Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus” (1 Thessalonians 5:18). Recognizing God’s hand in every situation and maintaining a grateful heart is central to understanding His will.
  7. To Rely on Him in Prayer:
God wants an open line of communication with His children. Paul encourages believers to “pray without ceasing” (1 Thessalonians 5:17), signifying a constant, ongoing relationship with the Divine.

In essence, God’s will for His Christian children revolves around a loving relationship with Him, transformation into Christ-likeness, love for others, righteous living, sharing the Gospel, gratitude, and an active prayer life. As we seek and submit to His will daily, we discover a purpose-driven life filled with meaning, joy, and eternal significance.
